Cervical screening is a nationwide program designed to encourage women to undergo testing at least every five years to detect any abnormal cells early. At Concept, we provide cervical screening as well as any necessary follow-up tests and treatments.
We understand that undergoing cervical cancer screening and related procedures can be a stressful and prolonged process. By choosing Concept for your gynaecological care, you can expect timely consultations and efficient procedures within our Day Hospital, helping to ease anxiety and minimise wait times. Our goal is to provide prompt, compassionate care, ensuring peace of mind throughout the process.
Cervical screening, often referred to as a Pap smear, can detect early signs of cervical cancer or abnormalities in the cervix. It typically involves collecting a sample of cells from the cervix to be examined for abnormal growth or infection, particularly with human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus known to cause most cervical cancers.
Cervical screening is recommended for individuals with a cervix from ages 25 to 74 and is an essential part of preventative healthcare.
Colposcopy is a procedure used to closely examine the cervix for signs of abnormalities. It is typically recommended when a cervical screening test (Pap smear) shows abnormal results such as the presence of HPV or abnormal cells or patient has symptoms such as bleeding between periods or after intercourse. During a colposcopy, a doctor uses a colposcope (a special magnifying instrument) to view the cervix more clearly. If any suspicious areas are found, the doctor may take a sample of tissue for further testing.
A cervical biopsy is a procedure where a small sample of tissue is removed from the cervix to check for abnormalities or cancerous cells. This is often done during a colposcopy if the doctor spots areas of concern.
The LLETZ (Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone of Cervix) procedure is a treatment used to remove abnormal or precancerous cells from the cervix. It's commonly performed when cervical screening or a colposcopy reveals abnormal cells.
During the LLETZ procedure, a thin, loop-shaped wire is used to remove the abnormal tissue from the cervix and is typically done under general anaesthesia however it can be done under local anaesthesia too.
A hysteroscopy is typically performed as a diagnostic tool when a patient has symptoms such as abnormal uterine bleeding especially in postmenopausal women or to assess the anatomy of the uterine cavity and rule out pathologies in younger women.
It involves inserting a thin, lighted tube called a hysteroscope through the cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope allows the doctor to view the uterine cavity internal structure and lining and identify any issues.
This is a day surgery procedure and can be performed with local or general anaesthesia, depending on the situation. Diagnostic hysteroscopy is relatively quick and allows the doctor to take biopsies or remove small growths if necessary.
For many of us, menstruation is a natural part of life, but when periods become irregular, painful, or excessively heavy, they can interfere with daily activities and overall well-being.
A menstrual disorder is an abnormality in the menstrual cycle and can take many forms. Some people may experience irregular periods, heavy bleeding, severe pain, or the absence of a period.
Concept Fertility provides expert care for menstrual disorders, offering personalised treatment plans depending on underlying cause.
If you’re experiencing ongoing menstrual issues, seeking support can make all the difference. You don’t have to put up with discomfort and pain, help is available.
Below are some of the following treatment options that we offer to support our patients through menstrual disorders.
The treatment of menstrual disorders depends on the underlying cause, severity of symptoms, and our patient’s fertility goals. Medical management typically involves both hormonal and non-hormonal therapies, pain relief medications, and other supportive treatments.
Endometrial ablation is a day procedure used to ablate the lining of the uterus (endometrium) to treat heavy menstrual bleeding.
Hysteroscopic myomectomy and polypectomy are minimally invasive surgical procedures used to remove fibroids (myomas) and polyps from the uterine cavity. These procedures help restore normal uterine function and relieve symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding, irregular periods, and infertility.
Family planning is a personal journey with many different options, and Concept Fertility offers a range of contraceptive solutions beyond the pill, including Mirena insertion and tubal ligation. We understand that contraceptive choices depend on individual needs and future family goals, and we are here to provide personalised guidance and treatment options to suit each patient’s circumstances.
Tubal ligation is a permanent surgical procedure designed to prevent pregnancy. It is recommended only for those who are certain they do not wish to have children in the future. The procedure works by blocking or cutting, or sealing the fallopian tubes, preventing eggs from reaching the uterus.
Mirena and Kyleena are hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) used for long-term birth control. They are a small, T-shaped device placed inside the uterus, where they slowly release levonorgestrel, a progestin hormone. This hormone works by thickening cervical mucus, thinning the uterine lining, and in some women suppressing ovulation, making it highly effective at preventing pregnancy.
Mirena provides protection for up to 8 years and Kyleena provides protection for up to 3 years. They can be removed at any time if a woman wishes to conceive or switch contraceptive methods.
Recurrent miscarriage can be a deeply heartbreaking experience, leaving women and couples searching for answers. Managing this condition involves not just medical treatment but also compassionate care, emotional support, and a commitment to finding the right path forward.
The first step is a comprehensive evaluation to uncover possible reasons for repeated pregnancy loss. This may include genetic issues, uterine abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, immune system issues, blood clotting disorders or some chronic medical issues. Each journey is unique, and pinpointing an underlying cause can offer clarity and help singles and couples plan for their future.
Our specialists at Concept Fertility provide personalised guidance and support, ensuring patients receive expert compassionate care at every step of their journey.
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat various conditions within the abdomen and pelvis such as endometriosis. It involves making small incisions through which a thin, lighted camera (laparoscope) and specialised surgical instruments are inserted. This allows doctors to examine organs, perform biopsies, or carry out procedures such as removing endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, or treating fertility-related conditions.
During the laparoscopy procedure, the surgeon can locate and remove endometriosis nodules, scar tissue, or adhesions. In some cases, laparoscopic surgery can reduce pain, improve fertility outcomes, and help manage other endometriosis symptoms.
It is a minimally invasive approach, with a typically fast recovery.
Laparoscopy can be used to both diagnose and treat ovarian pathologies. It allows for direct visualisation of the ovaries and surrounding structures, making it an effective tool for identifying conditions and treatment. Laparoscopy can help diagnose ovarian pathologies, while also enabling removing of the cysts.
We can also check the patency of the fallopian tubes during laparoscopy.
