Concept Fertility Centre and Day Hospital is a private facility. Our aim was to create a purpose-designed place to enable the delivery of comprehensive gynaecology, fertility, and assisted reproductive treatments in one location for our clients.

Is there a car park at Concept?

At Concept Fertility we do have a car park to cater for our clients.

A small car park is situated at the rear of the Centre. There are a limited number of spaces, including ACROD

There is also plenty of free on-road parking around the Centre, on Nicholson Road, Derby Road and Excelsior Street. Please be mindful of the parking restrictions for each area which may vary between 1 and 3 hours.

Concept has a group of specialist affiliated gynaecologists. Whilst Concept does not employ these gynaecologists, they all utilise the services available at Concept Fertility Centre and Concept Day Hospital.

Some of our specialists are based here within the facility and others practice in their own private consulting rooms.

Our specialists believe that their own approach to service delivery, enables them to have the best services available to them. They are dedicated to providing individualised treatment protocols, when managing their patient’s treatment cycle, using the expert skills and services at Concept Fertility Centre.

How do I make an appointment?

Your first step is to get a referral from your GP or regular gynaecologist to one of our Specialist doctors.

To see a fertility specialist or gynaecologist affiliated with Concept Fertility Centre we first need a referral from your GP. Referrals can be emailed to referral@conceptfertility.com.au and our practice manager will call you to make an appointment.

Why do I need a referral?

A valid referral from a GP is needed for you to be able to claim Medicare rebates for services received from your Specialist doctor and Concept Fertility Centre.

Without an in-date referral, you will NOT receive Medicare rebates. Most referrals from a GP are valid for a period of not more than 12 months, it is important to make sure you always have a current and valid referral. Specialist referrals, for example from another gynaecologist, are only valid for 3 months.

What are the waiting times to see a specialist doctor?

We know that when you are anxious it’s important to secure an appointment with an expert at the earliest opportunity.

The usual waiting time from enquiry to initial consultation is approximately 4-6 weeks. Due to rescheduling and cancellations, it may be possible to see a specialist within a few days of referral. We will also try to offer you the soonest available appointment. Our specialist doctors are independent professionals who manage their own outpatient services. The administration manager for each specialist can advise you of their waiting times.

What tests will I need?

Any tests will be dependent on your medical history and any test results from investigations completed by your GP or referring doctor.

Your specialist doctor will decide what additional tests are needed.

Can I have my investigation blood tests at Concept?

Most blood tests can be completed at Concept.

Some blood tests requested by your specialist can be done at Concept Fertility Centre in Subiaco. Service commences at 7:00 am Mondays to Saturdays and Public Holidays and 8.00am on Sundays.

If you have been provided with a pathology request form by your specialist please present it when you attend for your blood tests. If your specialist requires specific tests which require independent laboratory processing then you will be provided with the appropriate pathology request form.

Can I have a semen analysis at Concept?

Yes, Concept Fertility Centre Subiaco has a purpose-designed Andrology laboratory for the processing of semen samples to assess sperm quality, cryopreservation (freezing) of sperm, and the preparation of sperm samples for treatment purposes.

We have dedicated sample rooms, or you can choose to produce your sample at home and bring it to us for processing. A semen analysis requires a GP referral. An appointment is required even if you are bringing your sample from home.

Can I store sperm at Concept?

Yes, you can store sperm at Concept Fertility Centre Subiaco.

We have a dedicated Laboratory to process samples and storage facilities for long term cryopreservation (freezing) of your samples.

There are many circumstances for which sperm storage is recommended including:
  • Before fertility treatment if you routinely work away from home
  • Before vasectomy surgery (male sterilisation)
  • Before chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment
  • Before gender affirmation therapy

It is necessary to have infectious disease screening (HIV, Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C blood tests) before storing your sperm, you can have these tests on the same day as your storage appointment, there are related charges for the blood tests.

You will be asked to consent to the storage of your sperm samples, this can be completed on the same day as your appointment and there are related charges for the cost of the freezing and storage. Please refer to our Fee Schedule.

I've had a vasectomy but now want to try for a baby, can Concept help?

Yes, we have a specialist who performs surgical sperm retrieval surgery (epididymal aspiration and testicular biopsy). This involves hospital admission and a procedure aimed at recovering tissue from the testes which may contain sperm.

Concept's purpose-designed Andrology laboratory is skilled at processing these samples to find the sperm, cryopreservation (freezing) of sperm, and the preparation of those sperm samples for later IVF with ICSI treatment purposes.

How much will my investigations and tests cost?

Depending on your medical history and availability of information from your referring GP the tests and investigations required will be ordered by your specialist.

Your specialist will decide what additional tests are needed and when and where to complete them. Please refer to our Fee Schedule.

If the specialist recommends treatment, what happens next?

When you have agreed a treatment plan with your specialist you will be asked to arrange a meeting with a Concept nurse coordinator and for some, treatment types, the counsellor.

We will guide you through the treatment process including payments, medications and consent forms and explain to you when to contact us when you feel ready to start your treatment.

Will my specialist be available at all times during my treatment?

Once you have chosen and developed a relationship with your specialist they will be responsible for your care management.

We believe that continuity of care is important and provides reassurance and stability for patients at what can be an already emotional and stressful time.

However, your specialist cannot always be be available. Therefore our team of specialists work very closely to ensure that there is always a trusted colleague to provide cover.

Concept specialists have an agreed theatre roster for egg collection procedures and they always endeavour to be available for their own patient’s embryo transfer procedure. Periods of leave for a Specialist will mean another Specilalist will perform your embro transfer.

How do I pay my Concept Fertility Centre invoices?

You will receive invoices for your treatment and any additional services not included in your treatment program. This might include additional blood tests or ulltrasound scans.

You can pay your accounts by debit or Visa / Mastercard credit card (not American Express), direct bank transfer, cash or cheque.

Do you offer a payment plan option to help me spread the cost?

Of course we do.

No interest, no set-up fee payments plans are availble to all patients. At the start of each cycle you will be sent a Payment Options email. Please select Payment Plan and our accounts team will contact you. Terms and conditions apply.

In addition Concept Fertility Centre has an excellent working relationship with SuperCare who are experts in assisting IVF patients to apply for the early release of Superannuation to pay for Tailored IVF Program expenses.

At Concept we understand that pregnancy may not be achieved quickly and that costs can quickly add up. We want you to focus on having a baby and not worrying about finance at what is already an emotional and stressful time.

When can I see a nurse?

We offer nurse scheduled appointments at Concept Fertility Centre, Subiaco as an inclusion to all our treatment programs.

No.

We offer nurse scheduled appointments at Concept Fertility Centre as an inclusion to all our treatment programs.

Can my family and friends come to my appointments?

We welcome a family member or friend to join you at your appointments.

For those experiencing infertility it can be extremely isolating and lonely. We welcome a family member or friend to join you at your appointments. We do however request that this is limited to one person.

Is there a counsellor I can see for support at Concept?

Yes, we have two dedicated counsellors who support patients before, during and after treatment.

In addition, they provide specialist counselling services to couples and individuals seeking support with surrogacy, donor sperm, donor egg treatments and surrogacy.

At times of distress or following early pregnancy loss our counsellors are on hand to offer expert support.

All patients undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment are strongly encouraged to attend a counselling session at the commencement of their initial treatment cycle. A complementary counselling session is available for EACH IVF/ICSI cycle..

Charges do apply for specialist service counselling and non-assisted reproductive treatment cycles. Counselling services are available via video conferencing methods and is chargeable.

Where can I have my treatment monitoring blood tests?

We offer treatment tracking blood tests 7 days a week at Concept Fertility Centre in Subiaco.

Blood test sessions are available from 7:00 am Mondays to Saturdays and Public Holidays and 8:00 am on Sundays.

Your blood test results are needed for the nurse coordinator / specialist handover report at 1:00 pm. You must attend for your bloods at Subiaco no later than 10:00 am to allow for processing and reporting of blood results the same day. Concept patients do have the option to attend other designated Australian Clinical Labs (ACL) for hormone tracking bloods. Please click here for more information.

Can I have my treatment monitoring ultrasound scans at Concept?

Yes, you can.

We offer treatment follicle tracking ultrasound scans on Monday to Saturday. Please arrive between 7:30 am and 8:30 am for your ultrasound.

Can I have my early pregnancy ultrasound scan at Concept?

Yes, you can.

Pregnancy ultrasound scans are arranged when your specialist instructs the nurse coordinator that your pregnancy hormone blood levels have increased sufficiently.

The nurse coordinator will advise you on booking arrangements for your pregnancy scan.

How can I prepare for pregnancy?

If you are preparing for a pregnancy speak with your GP or gynaecologist first.

Speaking to your GP or specialist first will give you an opportunity to discuss any health concerns, update your medical history and immunisation history and arrange any pre-pregnancy immunisations. In addition your GP or gynaecologist can recommend the correct dose of folate (folic acid) supplement and assess any weight, diet and lifestyle factors which may affect conception.

How does body weight affect my fertility?

Being under or over the desired weight for both males and females can disrupt the hormonal balance that is necessary for normal egg and sperm production.

For patient safety a strict criteria is adhered to for admissions to Concept Day Hospital when anaesthetic is required. You may be required to attend a formal assessment of suitability for anaesthetic if your body mass index (BMI) exceeds the criteria.

I have had multiple miscarriages, can Concept help me?

Yes, we can provide support in a number of ways.

Our gynaecologists can initiate clinical investigations which may reveal why your miscarriages have occurred.

Concept provides scientific assessment services, to screen embryos for chromosome abnormalities and offers treatment programmes including embryo screening and diagnosis.

What happens to my stored sperm / eggs / embryos if I die?

Current Regulatory Tissue Authority legislation in Western Australia does not allow the posthumous use of sperm or eggs. In the case of embryos, posthumous use is dependent on the consent given at the time of storage.
